VirtualDub video squashing blues:(

Hey guys,

I've run out of ideas as to why this is happening. My video is coming out like 4:3 video when it goes into VirtualDub as 16:9:/

This is my workflow:

1) 24p and 60i video saved from a 29.97 timeline in Premiere.

2) Exported as "match sequence settings"

3) Imported into VirtualDub

4) Added filters IVTC (bff and reduce framerate) + deinterlace

5) Applying the resize filter makes it extremely interlaced.

6) My head hurts.

Hope someone here could possibly help me, I'm at my wits end :crybaby:

Thanks in advance!
Rudi

vdub assumes everything as "square pixels". You re-interpret the AR when encoding to final format in the encoder , or within your editor if you're going back there

1) 24p and 60i video saved from a 29.97 timeline in Premiere.

Is that 24p native , or 24p telecined (24p in 60i)?

You're going to have problems with cadence and jerky playback - 24p and 60i don't match very well - unless you mean the 60i sections were used for slow mo (interpreted as 24p)

Don't IVTC and deinterlace - you do one or the other. IVTC telecined material , and deinterlace interlaced material. Otherwise you mess up the footage (deinterlacing 3:2 material will leave dupes & jerky playback and unnecessarily degrade the image quality, IVTCing interlaced material will leave combing)

You cannot resize interlaced material vertically, unless you use interlaced aware scaling (otherwise you mash up fields and get a bloody mess) . Vdub's resizer has a checkmark for interlace

Sorted for now

Hey there,

thanks for the info, really appreciate it. I think I've fixed it for now, I've taken the 60i footage, imported it into AE, exported out in a 23.98 Widescreen preset, and it looks like it's working now. Shooo, this editing stuff can really give one a headache ha ha:)

Thanks very much again for the help!
