vinten vision 3 tripod head

hi, this is for any one who owns this head:

what number spring do you use with the DVX? rush sent me a #2 but the camera won't stay still after i move it and i know this is wrong.

so i guess the one should be the right one, but i'd like to hear from you guys if you know for sure.

I've got the number 2 spring also, but as you say, it wants to spring back to center. If I load up the camera with a shotgun, matte box and a couple filters, it balances well. I am going to order the number one spring for when I'm using just the camera.

What do you think of the head? I just replaced a Bogen 501 and I can't get over how smooth the Vinten is.

yeah, it kicks the crap out of the 501 and 503.

i actually haven't tried the #2 with a mattbox yet, i'll do that right now.

Check out the "spring chart" at the bottom of the page:

It doesn't list the DVX but it does reccomend the #1 spring for the Sony PD150 and the Sony VX2000 which are close in size and weight.

for anyone else that gets the vision 3 tripod head, the number 2 spring turned out to be the right one for the DVX. the secret is that you don't tighten it the whole way, and then position the camera's center of balance a little bit forward.

perfectly smooth motion in 360 degrees you can move with a finger, and it stops in its tracks exactly where it is when you take your finger off. this thing is nice. i think i'm in love with it.
