Ok guys, I am soon going to buy my first quality tripod. I am torn between the Vinten pro 6 DC, and the Bogen 525 sticks with a 503 head. Is the vinten worth the extra money? Are there any noticable/useful advantages to the Vinten?
listen, I'm not sure what your budget is but if you are looking at investing in a tripod/head that will last you for a few years look at the Vinten Vision 3, I think quite a bit more than the Pro 6 but far far superior ( you can change the balancing spring in the head for various wieghts of cameras, number 1 spring being for cameras like pd 170 etc.)
Those are both great tripods with their own advantages. The Bogen is cheaper and a little lighter, the Vinten Pro6 has a sturdier set of legs and a spiffier head that is a beefed up version of a 503 with night-illumination. The Bogen can take cheaper midlevel spreaders, the Vinten has the wonderful Pozi-lock system for locking the legs in place. Vinten has a slightly better bag included. You can move up to a Vision 3 for a couple hundred more with the combo of the Vision 3 (35433) and the Bogen 3182 legs for a total of $1150 (Special DVXuser price starting Jan. 1st) ;D
