Vinten Fibertec Tripod

Looking at buying a Vinten Fibertec tripod and using the Cartoni Focus fluid head.

If you have any direct experience with the Vinten Fibertec sticks I sure would appreciate hearing from you. The specs look great and yet, there doesn't appear to be great market penetration. Odd.

I'm also considering the Miller Solo VJ sticks due to their ability to get very high and very low. However, the Fibertec tripod looks a bit more rugged. It's also twice the price. That's how it goes...

Thanks.

I own a Vinten Fibertec tripod I bought on eBay last year. It was a great deal: legs, floor spreader and Pro-Touch 6 head, carrying bag, all like new, for £300 + shipping!

It's a very nice tripod, incredibly sturdy and rigid. You can literally sit on it and it won't move. Being a great Cartoni fan (I have an Action Pro too and I love it) I'm also planning to buy a Focus head to replace the Pro-Touch 6.
Having said that, let's see the Pro and Cons.

Pro.
- Very well made, Vinten quality at its best.
- More sturdy, stable and rigid than you could dream. Great for use on a dolly.
- Rugged for heavy use
- Easy to carry (legs lock together + carrying strap)
- Easy to clean and maintain
- Very quick to set up and fold away.
- Very low shooting capability, with or without spreader.
- Coolness effect. Oh yeah, it's very, very impressive.

Cons
- At 3,3Kg, not the lightest carbon fiber legs available for the DVX or HVX
(well, it makes sense as it is intended for cameras up to 45kg).
In fact, it'd be a oversized for any prosumer camera including the XL.
- Due to the legs channelized section, clamping accessories to them is a bit tricky.

If you're going to buy one new, I'd suggest you go for the spreadloc mid-level spreader + rubber feet rather than the floor spreader. A bit more expensive but much more flexible (you get the most indoor, outdoor and on uneven ground). And the only choice if you do run 'n gun shooting.

Hope it helps.
