correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't this problem your having called 'horizontal banding'? i've noticed this problem in my footage as well. i've seen it through my laptop screen and my ipod, but also through some ntsc tv's. this could very well be a refresh rate issue, or a crappy encode. i have a friend who exports all of his content in flash format, so that no "down-rezzing" occurs within vimeo or other flash-based players.
maybe its playin with the s-curves that caused these lines. there are some cautions to playing with s-curves at the bottom of that page u posted above papa. as it says, playing with s-curves stretches the images histogram, i can see that causing some problems. just my 2 cents
It certainly doesnt have anything to do with the S-curves, and I am certain it's not a frequency problem. I think it's a result of the conversion/compression applied by Vimeo. I notice the same thing in my videos and they are clean and clear before upload, then the Vimeo presented video has these lines. I dont think this is a Vimeo only thing, though. I'm pretty sure I remember similar issues when I was on Blip.
I dont know what to do about it.
(BTW, I viewed your video on 2 different laptops, a desktop with CRT and a desktop with LCD, as well as a Mac. I saw it on all of them.)
