Vimeo Pro Launches

No plans to get my own, though I do have a regular client I am recommending it to, seems better for companies, not so much filmmakers.

Not a chance. Plus is perfect for the price/features I get. If I was still in the corporate world I'd likely recommend it to my clients though.

One major distinction I noticed that Pro offers over Plus is the right to upload videos intended for commercial use.

Vimeo's policies lately have me in a bind. Vimeo+ has all the features I could ever need with one MAJOR caveat: no commercial use. This means I can't include logos, promote a product/service, or have it go on commercial websites. 90% of my work is for this specific purpose, so it only seems fitting to get a Pro account, right?

Wrong. Vimeo Pro caps off at 50gb, with more storage available for more money. Not only that, but each video only gets 250k plays when watched somewhere other than Vimeo.

I need more than 50gb of storage, but I also need to use Vimeo for commercial purposes, and I can't pay $400 a year to do this. At least not yet, anyway.

Haha I was really confused here for a second thinking to myself I heard that exact same thing earlier today. Then I clicked on your vimeo link and it all made sense. Hi Landis.

The 50 gig cab and amount of viewers just does not make sense to me. Why in the world would they do that? Especially since its their "pro" account.

I can see their rationale: businesses have more money to expend on such a service than do individuals. For most individuals who make short films, the Plus account works great. But freelancers who do strictly advertising work are left in the rain.
