I was just wondering what most people are using, and what has the highest quality for sd. Is there a website that will stream uncompressed 480p? If compressed, an h.264 480p? Why already pretending to go hd if they can't even go full sd?

it's not about finding a website that will provide the bandwidth, it's about encoding a video stream that the end user can watch.

that's why web video is so heavily compressed... the bitrate is targeted to be accessible to the lowest common denominator, aka the speed of your average internet user.

if you want the best quality, uploading a compressed clip for another encoding cycle isn't the way to do it... you'll need your own professional encoding tools, and the right kind of bandwidth, which is expensive.

Vimeo is the best I've found in terms of usability and image quality. Why you'd ever need to post uncompressed video for mass consumption is beyond me.

"HD" has become sort of a buzzword that people throw around without any reference to the actual technical definitions of what it means, I've noticed. That means that on the web "HD" is usually far below actual HD resolution. But you know what? Fullscreen it and it still looks pretty damn good.

Yea, people do think that the high quality button on youtube makes it HD. I am just saying, when is there going to be a website that can do 480p, without dropping out tons of frames like I have seen on most vimeo "hd" videos.
