vignetting with wide angle zuiko lenses and sgblade rotorazor 3

Hello everyone. I am using a panasonic HMC 151 and SGblade with rotorazor 2 and 3.
I have severe vignetting issues with ROTOrazor 3 and zuiko 24mm f 2.8 (getting worse as you stop down), the 35-70mm f3.6 at 35mm and less with the 50mm f1.8. There seems to be a huge difference when I am using certain canon ef lenses. Even with the ef 20mm the vignetting seems acceptable and almost none with the 35mm. What a pity for the zuikos. Any thoughts?

Hi,

ROTOrazor 3 will naturally vignette more due to the element being less diffusive to allow more light to pass through. RR3's strong point is low lightloss and should be used when the situation calls for it (shooting in a dark room without adaquate light, for example).

Make sure that you are not using EF-S lenses. These are designed for digital SLR camera bodies and project a smaller image circle due to the smaller sensor size. The result is a bad vignette when attached to a 35mm adapter.

Thank you for your answer, Wayne

I understand that it is normal to vignetting more than razor2. But it seems almost useless with most wide angles and even normal lenses (except maybe very fast ones, like the ef 35mm f1.4). Something that is not mentioned at all.

Zuiko lenses and ef have nothing in common with the ef-s. Issues I mention are totally irrelevant with ef-s.

What I also wanted to know is what will happen with razor 1. Even with razor 2, on a clear blue sky, the pattern of the ground glass is clearly visible even at f2.8.
Is razor 1 regarding vignetting behaves better than razor 3, something like razor 2, and is pattern less visible than razor 2?

Thanks
Dimitris

Hi Dimitris,

Yes, the vignetting with razor 1 is like razor 2 because it has a similar amount of diffusion, although you should not get a grain pattern with razor 1. The downside of razor 1 though, is that you can only shoot @ 1/50th shutter and the bokeh is not as good as with razor 2.

Each razor has its pros and cons and one should be selected to suit a particular shooting situation.
