Viewing avi files in Vegas 10

I am using the hvx200 and the files coming off are avi. files that wont play in Vegas. I have a converter that is kinda of shabby but it lets me convert it into a MPEG where I can work with it.

The problem is when working with the footage, it is very sluggish giving a kind of "bleeping" or "stop and go" action while editing which makes editing near impossible to get anything right.

Any suggestions on how to better the avi. files to play smoothly in Vegas?

If you're shooting to tape, it should be a simple DV capture, and Vegas should be able to play them, no sweat.

If you're shooting to P2, the files aren't AVI -- they're MXF, and Vegas can't read them without DVFilm's Raylight.

ok got it. I stand corrected they are MXF. files and the Raylight worked like a charm. Thanks for ending this multi-hour long brain teaser. I really appreciate it.
