Viewing a Monitor in Sunlight - Here's How

Here is a tip for viewing a monitor in sunlight. I discovered this when I was looking at my 7" monitor in my office with the sunlight directly on the monitor. I noticed I could easily see the screen even though it is only a 200cd/m2 monitor. I wondered why. Then I realized my eyes iris was more open in the darkened room than it would be outside. So I came up with a way to do the same thing outdoors.

Get a pair of full cover sunglasses. A pair of good old-timers big sunglasses works. It's important that they block out all light around your face except the light coming through the lenses or this doesn't work. Cut a hole in each lens just big enough to view the monitor. To figure out how big and were to put the hole, view your monitor as you normally would. Then mark the area on the sunglasses with a marking pen.
Using your favorite tool, cut out the viewing area on the glasses. A Dremel tool with the appropriate grinder works. A drill can crack the lens.

It significantly improves the ability to see the screen with or without a hood. Yes, you will look like a 3rd grader wearing his X-Ray sunglasses that can see through clothes, but it works.

Something like this:

Note that these glasses fit over your sunglasses or prescription glasses. They are available at the pharmancy for about $12.
