Hey I noticed recently that several of my quicktime videos on one of my external HD's were corrupted. Some of them showed artifacting that was definetely not there before and some videos play several minutes in and then quicktime quits. (Not a quicktime problem b/c it wont play in other viewers ie. VLC, Mplayerosx) I assumed it was bad sectors on my HD so I checked the disk in disk utility (I'm on a MAC btw  ) it showed that the disk needed repair so I used disk utility to fix it and now it says that the disk is fine however the videos are still messed up.

....My question is....
Is this something that will grow and spread to the rest of the drive and I'll need to get a replacement right away?

OR

Has disk utility covered the problem and I can go back to editing??

thanks in advance fellas

If you're on a mac you might as well kiss your files goodbye if they are curupted. I wont go into detail why, but read up about HFS+ and why files aren't easily saveable when they "dissapear".

But look at the plus side! HFS+ makes it so you don't have to defrag ever. (What a useless capeability for our trade)

Better keep backups somewhere else, or on an NTFS(windows 2000+) drive, where if errors occur, you can most likely run a scandisc and recover most of the errors.

P.S. DVD+-Rs suck pretty bad too.
