Videomaker Expo---East Coast

I was at Videomaker Expo on Wed (Pre-Conference Seminar) and the show and some seminars on Thursday.

Plextor fed us dinner on Wed and did a presentation. They actually make Sony and some of panasonics stuff.

I watched a demo and picked up a demo at DV Racks booth, and the dude in the magazine ads was actually doing the demo. I almost asked for his autograph. The chroma key program they were running was pretty cool.

I was going to go to the XL2 Demo, but I tried it out over at B&H's setup, and I just didn't think it was going to worth my time. The thing is ugly and looks like it was broken in half.

I stopped by and talked to our boys at Panasonic and they were trying to sell me the DVC-30, which is cute and pretty powerful.

I was truly disappointed in the lack of attendance from the software companies. There was a panel on Wed. with Ulead, Adobe, Roxio, and Pinnacle. It was good, but they all split right after the discussion, so I quickly pinned the pinnacle guy to the wall and tortured information out of him, well not exactly. He was gracious to give me ten minutes and answered all my questions.

That was it with software, there were many people there looking for answers and trying to decide which route they wanted to go with software. Two system building companies were there doing demos of Avid. Nothing else. The rest was Cameras and hardware. It just was not a complete picture.

The lady I work and another woman who does weddings with us wanted to take a basic editing course. The description gave the impression that they would each be shooting and have a computer with an instructor walking them step by step, and they would end up with some completed footage. The all day workshop didn't go off very well, the instructor was unprepared and there Macs wouldn't work. Only the instructor had a computer and it was struggling.

They did get there money back and got some time from Bill Davis who gave us some good advice and encouragement.

All in all I had somegood sessions and learned some stuff andmet some other people in my area of work.

Watch for the "Empress" they sell recycled mini-dv tapes. Some women named Spring handed a paper and was offereing tapes at a ridiculous price, we read the fine print and they were all recycled tapes.

I guess people send them there used tapes, they stripe/black them out. "Test" them digitally and resell them. Janet, the lady I work for, called them today and the "the person who gives prices" was not there.

TC,
It actually reminded when I was in Peru last year. Someone running up to you saying, "Hey, we good business. Buy this. You American. You have money."
