Video to 35mm

Hey Guys,

I was wanting to find out what different video formats (from MiniDV to HD) look like when they are blown up to 35mm and projected. I didn't get to catch 28 Days Later in the cinema, I can't imagine it would have looked great (anyone see it at the movies?).

I've begun to get interested in the AJ-SDX900, is that a suitable camera if you want to eventually want it to be blown up and projected?

Also, if anyone has seen any other formats blown up (anything up to HD) please share your comments on the quality.

Mike

Re: Video to 35mm

i saw 28 days later in the theater and it did amazingly well, but so much money went to post work that you probably wont have available.

dvx, if sent to a good comversion place actually does pretty well, but the 900 will do better

I saw 28DL in the theater, and thought it was unacceptable. Guess it depends on where you sit in the theater.

I've seen DVX footage blown up to 35mm, and thought it was *much* better. At close to the screen it was marginal, but from the back of the theater it looked great.

Saw "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" and "Spy Kids 2" in the theater, both originated on 1080/24p HD. Almost completely acceptable as an alternative to film origination.

Oh ok, thanks guys. So Barry, would you say that the SDX900 would be acceptable (obviously I don't mean to the same extent as HD)? What would be the best alternative to HD?

On the topic of HD movies, anyone see The Hebrew Hammer (I believe it was Straight-To-Video, at least in Australia). It was shot on HD and I thought it was film until I did some research about it on the net. Pretty funny movie, although I was a bit disappointed.

I haven't seen SDX footage on the big screen, so take this as speculation, but yes, I'd say the SDX would be quite superior to the DVX and most definitely the best alternative to HD. At least until the 24P Digital Betacam camera comes out, but that's going to be twice the price of the SDX.
