You can export video as an image sequence and then trace each frame, or apply a filter that suits your look, in photoshop and then re-import as a batch.
Got Paint Shop Pro? (OK, I guess, Photoshop would work, too... )
Spit out the film as individual frames, run a batch job which takes each frame and converts it to the look you want, then saves them out again.
Import those frames into your NLE, and there you go.
Not difficult, but time consuming... I just did this to a 4 minute piece and the conversion took 6 1/2 hours. The initial exporting of the frames took about as long, too. (Not a sketch, though...I turned it into a airbrushed look. Same principle, though.)
I'm not sure the size was the problem. I've messed around with this too and I found there is always something in the frame that doesn't handle the filter the way everything else does.
I loved the way the background looked. Very cool, but the butterfly still felt too...real.
Maybe it was the motion. Mabe if you slowed the clip by 20%.
I actually prefer the "contours" filter/effect when doing stuff like this, but the background is always too busy. But it looks very Yellow Submarine-ish. I'd put a sample of that version up, but it's like 10 MB for those 25 seconds.
