Hello Everyone

Just came back from a video shoot in India. We used the HVR-HD1000P in HDV 1080I format.

BTW I am having major problems with some of my video footages which I only realised when I was back in Singapore. Some of my video footages on the HDV tapes while capturing had subtle running streak moving from top to bottom continuosly, they appeared at random and only in Indoor shots in the HDV tapes ( I don't know whether my camera's faulty or cameraman at fault ). Check the same HDV tapes on my HDV decks and the problem persisted. I used both firewire and HDMI for capture and still the same. Concluded the problem had arised during the video shooting and while recording to tape. What did we do wrong? and Is there a solution to remedy the problem ( Any plug-ins etc.. )? I am in deep ****, please help?

The HD1000 is a CMOS camera, which means it suffers from rolling shutter artifacts. You were shooting under fluorescent lights, which pulse on and off with each cycle of power (either 50hz or 60hz, depending on where). The camera reads out the image from the sensor one line at a time, which leads to the rolling bars of light and dark.

You can alleviate most of the problem by changing your shutter speed to a lower setting, or ideally, a setting that is some multiple of the frequency of flicker.

I don't know of any plugins to take care of that. The camera isn't faulty, just a less than optimal design.

Someone jump in and tell me I'm wrong, but I think you could fix this footage with a fair amount of work. It appears that the banding maintains consistent size and motion, therefore a carefully designed series of ramp effects (gradients) animated to match the rolling shutter problem could be used as the basis for color correction. This procedure would require decent skills in After Effects or other compositing program, and lots of patience.

can share some preview on the camcorder?

the download limit has been reached for the file

sounds like Angus might be right: I travelled a lot in India in the last 6 years and had some electrical problems with dirty phase and especially up to 100V running in the ground wires !

I work in a nameless large Canadian camera store, and I have easy access to all manner of CMOS cameras. The HD1000, HV20, V1U, EX1, A1U, etc, all exhibit these issues under any kind of pulsed lighting. It's just like the old synchro scan issues with CRT monitors and CCD sensors - you need to shoot at the right shutter speed for the lighting.

I hope you're able to salvage your footage, Damien. Good luck.
