hey jimstamos,
i worked ina video chop shop, well sorta but legaly taking sonys from china then strip em down, repaint, resolder upgrades, whipe out memery ,re-inplant logos re-calibrate,
re-name to runco.honest its legal i guess
so my advice is ,the best is always expensive, and the higher lumenss is what you want
above 1000 at least 1200 1500 to 2000 now is teh standerd but the higher the lumens the noiser the cooloing fan is so they get yah one way or the the other.
newer projectors have nice network capability and wireless!!!

i think wxga is higher resolution xga is a bit lower res i think,
if you dont do high def youll save a bundle!! high def is a bit more but its the standerd!now

go to projectorcentral.com for the know it all of projectors!!!

One thing to take into consideration is the throw of the projector. At my school, we had tons of new, small PC linkable projectors, but for shows we always used a 20 year old projector that was about 3 feet tall and a good 80 pounds. It might not have had the best color replication after all the years of being beat up, but it could hit the screen at the right proportions from across the auditorium.

Another thing to consider is where you plan on projecting. The more ambient light, whether from windows or general lighting, the more lumens and higher contrast ratio you'll need.

Are you planning on doing events with the projector too, i.e. montages at sweet 16's/weddings/parties? If so, it'd be useful to have one that has a video out and VGA out or pass through. A lot of party halls or clubs have their own TV's, so this way the signal can go in the projector, out the projector and continue to those tv's.

B&H has a nifty projector calculator that will show you the throw/brightness etc.

Hope that helps

Oh, as for brands, the Epson and NEC ones at the school was always a nice one to work with
