Video out options?

What are the options for viewing on reference monitor in Premiere Pro? Currently I am passing through my capture camera via RCA video to monitor. Can a separate PCI video card with video out work as well or better? Is analog the only option? I guess what I'm asking is, what is the best *quality* way to shoot the video to a reference monitor? I'm assuming by shooting it out analog I'm not getting the best picture - Am I out to lunch on this? Is the video out via the camcorder good enough [for color correction]?

Thanks.

Re: Video out options?

Have you tried BNC? what about one of those new xbrite screens? Those screens that looks like your looking at a glossy photo, you know what I'm talking about?...
Why don't you get yourself one of those thousand dolllar HD monitors that Lucas used for previewing his shots. I'll spot you like couple bucks. ;)

Re: Video out options?

Dakota,
Try to at least get a S-VIDEO output to your monitor. This will be significantly better than the RCA video.

Monitor has BNC but how do I shoot the video out from Premiere using BNC? Spec video card?  ???

The camera I capture with only has RCA out. So would a video card with S-VIDEO be the way to go?  :-/ And how would a second video card work with Premiere? All I see in the options is to "play on DV hardware"

Thanx guys.

Re: Video out options?

Dakota - You just need to find an AGP videocard that has video out (s-video or RCA). You can find some 128mb or 256mb cards for pretty cheap now. They will have DVI/VGA and s-video/RCA for about $65-$150.  This will not only speed up your computer but make it so you can go straight to your monitor for previewing in Premiere Pro. But in After Effects you still need to loop thru your playdeck. (Write Adobe or your Congressman and complain.)

Not sure about having 2 videocards. Don't think that will work. What videocard do you have now? Or do you use onboard (motherboard) video?

Re: Video out options?

I have a decent video card with dual head and a breakout box. I have used more then one video card before. It works fine (2nd must be PCI) I unfortunately get some conflict if I use dual monitor AND video out with my card. Hence my question here. No biggie getting a second card but just feeling out options. Want the best quality video out. [without breaking the bank]

Thanks

Re: Video out options?

What video card do you have. I thought unless its a parhelia, you cannot use the analog out. For example, I have a Radeon 9800pro and it has dvi, rgb, and analog... but i cannot use the analog with PPro for only a video preview.

Re: Video out options?

NVIDIA AGP 128 meg dual head W/DVI/Out - But, this is why I posted the question... I CANT use it as video out. So I use the pass through on camera but looking for other options.

Re: Video out options?

Here's my 2 incredibly devalued pesos: I have a Radeon 9000 (in a NB) and I just use the S-Video output to an ext. monitor.

Re: Video out options?

Not sure if digital > analog > digital would yield the best output for reference. :-/

Re: Video out options?

ya your card on a dual display is only output the monitor res which is not scaled accurate to monitoring NTSC. Dual display cards usually do one of the other... 2 Displays or 1 dipslay and composite out... not all 3 together simultaneously. Someone mentioned the matrox parhelia which I know does work well. There is a WYSIWYG plug in "What you see is what you get" that allows 2 displays and detects output of NTSC applications such as After Effects and Premiere Pro. I think that is the solution you are looking for. I also hear they are coming out with an HD one pretty soon so it will also have component out... that would really be your best bet connection.

Not so much looking for a solution - I was just looking for best quality output. If RCA works for all then so be it.
