Video Noise Reduction with Avid (but AE as an option?)

Try the Noise & Grain filters (Grain Reduction) in AE 6.5. I believe it's included in the Standard Edition. Has a lot of variable settings. A slight adjustment on just a couple will go a long ways. You could export uncompressed AVI's or QT's of the scenes or shots you want to clean up and, hand them off to someone with the software to do it (whatever that may be), render those out uncompressed, then you cut 'em back in. A reference clip of surrounding shots would be helpful for matching.

Thanks, guys.

It's kind of funny . . . I had originally noticed all this video noise in my Avid client monitor. I thought I'd just process the video to clean it up. However, I decided to burn a test DVD just to see what it looked like. I went from my Avid Mojo directly into my Lite-On 5045 recorder via Firewire and at the highest quality setting. When I played back the DVD (on multiple TV's), I couldn't believe my eyes. 95% of the video noise was gone! It is as if the encoding process had some kind of video noise reduction filter activated.

So, I think it will be fine for now. I may play around later to try to remove more noise before encoding again, however, it may not even be necessary.

Cheers,
