Ok somehow my settings changed in my Vegas software and my recent video looks jaggy. Currently I use Vegas 4.0 ver. e and DVA 1.0 ver d build 230 (I know its old school but can't afford to move up yet). Are these correct settimgs for best output to DVD.

I shoot with DVX100 in 24p mode.

I edit using NTSC DV 24p (720x480, 23.976 fps) with full res render quality set to best in the properties menu.

I render video using the Main Concept MPEG 2, DVDa 24p video stream with audio to AC3.

In DVA the properties are NTSC 720x480 and thats it.

Whats the difference in vegas properties mode ...
NTSC DV
NTSC DV 24P
NTSC DV Standard
NTSC DV Square

Whats the difference in MPEG render mode between ...
DVD NTSC
DVD NTSC Video Stream
DVDa NTSC Video Stream

Its been so long since I edited anything I'm all confused.

If you select the clip and look at it's properties, what is the field order set to? In vegas 6 it says "None (progressive scan)", which is correct. I believe your project properties should be "NTSC DV 24P" and again, "None (progressive scan)". I render using the MPG-2 settings and "DVD Architect 24P NTSC Video Stream". Don't know if you have the option in Vegas 4.

I tried to get a screen capture but it don't look as bad on my monitor as it does on TV. I wonder if its my DVD player (which is in progressive mode) is the problem. I should check the DVD without progressive mode on.

What do you mean by looking "jaggy"?

Well the scene is a band playing at a club where the lights are colored and instead of a nice smmoth color wash I have harsh edges from each light and when someone is silliuted in front of them their outline is sorta jaggy.

I got the jagged video also when I burned a DVD incorrectly! You have to burn it with the correct settings. Its easy with DVD Architect but not with Nero or any other DVD cheap software!

If it's red light, this is probably par for the course. You could try a chroma blur.

Actually it is the red light mostly and sometimes the orange. I believe the club used media friendly gells this time. I'll have to look into that.

So Dave, let me ask you one other question. Now that I'm filming local bands again on a regular basis, There is much demand to bring back my cable access TV show I once produced. Since I have the footage on the timeline already, what would be the best render choice to render back to DV tape for output to TV?

There's only one choice to render back to DV tape -- DV. If it's 24p, choose either straight NTSC or 2:3 pulldown, but not 2:3:3:2 pulldown.
