Video looks good on mac but dark on windows pc

It used to be that Windows Gamma was darker and cause this "problem". But I thought Windows fixed that long ago.

Make sure the video card on the PC has the latest drivers. I've noticed on my PC the last set of drivers for My GeForce 7600GT had a much better setting. The driver set before would always be "clipped" looking and seemed to be showing everything slightly too bright or contained "setup". Since installing the new video card drivers, gamma is now correct (and adjustable ) highlights no longer appear clipped, and blacks actually look black.

A lot does depend on the video card that is driving the computer. And you may find no two computers are exactly alike. Higher end video cards should allow user adjustments but the cheaper cards and many onboard video may not allow much tinkering.

But again, check the drivers first.

Ok, will do.. Thanks Ryan.

For the next guy/gal that comes across this issue, here's some info from James and Phil:

Gamma Correction Techniques using FCP Gamma filter

Nest the sequence.
Add a Gamma filter from the Image control group and set the gamma to 0.8. It is easiest to do this by entering the number directly into the numeric filed.
Add a Brightness and Contrast filter from the same Image Control group and set Brightness to 5 and Contrast to 10. These are useful starting points, but they will be close.
Complete the rest of your compression and test on your target PC.

That could be a factor as well. Set OSX to 2.2 Gamma. Of course the best thing to do there would be to grab a monitor calibrator such as the xRite i1.

Apparently final cut uses 1.8 gamma instead of 2.2.... I vaguely remember coming across the solution to this... unfortunately can't find it... but the problem is related to the different gamma that apple stuff uses.

You might search around on reduser actually. It seems to be pretty much common knowledge around those parts...

yeah... sorry, I can't be more help.
