Video Game Clip Copyright Question?

Hey guys, I have a question and have been trying to search for an answer with no luck.

I am working on creating a new tv show for my universitiy tv station, and I wanted to know if it was possible to show breif clips of video games in it without getting in trouble. For example, say the layout was the ten best and worst arcade games of all time and i wanted to show clips of the games with a review overtop of it, can I do that?

I am pretty sure that I can not do so without getting permission first, but wanted to get some insight. Thanks

Anything that is already copyright you need permission for. But there is a slight loophole for education purposes, I’m not sure that you would swing it for games on Uni Television though. :) Check with your dept. heads.

You're criticizing/reviewing, which means you can show brief samples in order to illustrate criticisms. It's all part of Fair Use in the USA.

Yes, I agree that what you describe to do is covered under Fair Use, just like newscasting. That being said, I am not a lawyer, and you should have your school general counsel review it.
