I have widescreen source video, and when i try to export it using Adobe Media Encoder CS4 i select the default quicktime widescreen setting. when it finally exports, it plays in quicktime as a 4:3 video.
I also have same problem, I could never have a QT thrue 16:9 picture, as far as i understood its actually 16:9 but quictime can not recognize 16:9 picture on desktop play.It should have interprated in NLE programs...ridiculous....Isn't it. You shoot 16:9 video and want to show or send it to your client, but you can't.It should be a solution somehow, I have watched and downloaded many QT files in widescreen...Maybe because of pp?
Open your mov in QT Pro
Show Movie Properties (Ctrl-J)
Click on Video Track
Click on Visual Settings Tab
Un check the Preserve Aspect Ratio box
(Here is where you now need to do some math to change the 4x3 to 16:9 ratio) 16 divided by 9 = 1.7777 (1.78 is close enough)
Divide the Vertical Pixel Dimension by 1.78 and enter the result in the Vert Dimension box
Ensure the Preserve Aspect Ratio box is UNCHECKED
Hit Tab key and notice the image in the QT window change.
In the QT Window Menu - File>Save
Heres an example:
QT movie Original is 320x240
Divide 240 x1.78 ( ie. 240/1.78=134)
Note- It is important to SAVE. This process is only changing the Header flag info in the file.
Shooter;
I searched from your name but couldn't find that topic, I remember i have read it and want to check it again but..anyway i am in a PAL land and i 've tried yesterday and it worked but of course according to our par settings.
Because when i divide 576 by 1.78 is gives me 323 whic looks wierd. But our DV PAL widescreen(1.45****) which i dont remember know, and it gives me 397 when divided by 576(576:1.45=397)and i entered 397 and it looks more logical.Am i doing smthng wrong?
But the main thing i wonder is, you say they need to see the flag on the header and then display correctly, aren't we changing the dimensions of frame just by doing this.I mean my 720X576 video becomes 720X397, on the other hand nothing seems wrong at resolution and frame but i think i didn't get the point of how we solved this..
