Video Equipment is EXPENSIVE

Budgeting new small sticks, new head for my big sticks, add a 75mm half ball, an extra QR plate & a Kirk Enterprises DSLR plate to fit the head, and I'm already racking up $500. Not sure about the Kirk plate yet. Need the head and the half ball, at least.

Video equipment is EXPENSIVE. May go used or bargain hunting for some items. Maybe DIY.

That is all.

That's actually pretty cheap for all of that gear! A head alone can be $500 easy...

You can find some great used deals on here, go used!

That - doesn't - sound that expensive??? A tripod head can easily run you into thousands of dollars. I guess it depends on what you compare it to. Compared to chocolate cake, video equipment is expensive, compared to equipment you would need to start a landscaping business or a restaurant or a hair salon, it's very affordable - and considerably less risky.

There are definitely items that are much more. I'm just amazed how much money I added up with a few simple items.

Chances of me owning that O'Connor head versus renting are very slim. The chances of me having a wife, even slimmer. My mouth just drops every time I see all the little items and their price tag, compared to a deli sandwich. But these items are solid and durable, and took a few talented craftsmen to design and build them, so I'll commend the manufacturers for their efforts.

mmm... chocolate cake. Chocolate tripod head could be cheaper? Bargain hunting runs in my family,

The most expensive facet of video is obsolescence.

It's not that something costs so much today... it's that it's worth so little a year from now.

That's the reason professionals put the most money in the things that last... lenses, lights, microphones, etc. It's ALL expensive... so put your money into the things that will give you the most mileage. Fortunately (unfortunately?) a good tripod and head is a pretty good investment if you think you'll be interested in this for a while.

Oh yeah... and I'd always prefer to buy "great" (used) vs. "good" (new), for equal money.

Ahh, I just got to play with one of these for a few weeks...

I really thought the 2575 was the best head possible. Years of using it had made everything about it second nature, it's been "THE" head for a long time. Then I had a 120ex foisted upon me. "Wait, what is this?" I said, "is there not a 2575 available?" Half a day into using it, I was in love. Finally head built for heavy setups like the 24-290 (my eyes love that lens, my back hates it). The 120ex just rocks, OConnor just keeps improving on what is already the best gear in the world.

And for the most part, video gear is CHEAP compared to what film gear used to cost.

So true and add the cost of raw stock, processing and transferring it is a bargain.
