Video Editing & Production Setup - Advice

Greetings All,

Let me start by saying what an excellent forum. So much information from so much experience. I have been put in an editor / production position at my company which is rather large for Corporate Training Videos and other corporate video needs..etc..etc.. I am very amatuer and have some experience in Premiere.. So I ask the following questions hoping to get some good info from the experience out in the forums.

Basically the question(s) I have are directly related to building of a Video Production/Editing type Studio room for our company.

I am looking for (and this may be broad) a recommended size of room that would allow for all the editing equipment and workspace as well as enough space for shooting interviews and other small set type videos. Recommendations for room on sound, lighting and other equipment I just don't know about yet..

Basically a how-to guide on building a functional room/studio for this time of video environment.

I apologize if this has been asked endless times, and for the broadness of the question. I would be happy to work with anyone through email if the responses are unhelpful to the community.

Thanks Very Much for your time and effort..

Patrick

Re: Video Editing & Production Setup - Advice

Hi,

There should be some media companies in your area that specialize in turn-key setups. They will be in a better position to advise you on a system that will meet your budget and production requirements. Get bids from everyone you can, then price the equipment individually from research on the internet. You can either piecemeal or go with a company.

Best of luck.

I agree. If you don't have a lot of experience then the best thing to do is pay someone who does. All depends on your budget. If you have a tight budget then you might find a turn-key system on eBay. But make sure they've got GREAT feedback.

As far as room size; 8' x 8' on up, for edit suite (for 1 or 2 people). 12' x 15' up, for interview setups. With lighting, small rooms will get real hot, so tall ceilings are nice. ;)

Good luck!

First let me say thank you for the replies..

Let me add to the above question. I have been doing wedding videos and family video editing for about 3-4 years including Police Academy type videos.. I am by no means a professional/expert editer..

Basically my above question related directly to our company wants to start doing video productions for employee training videos, news/information updates, etc..etc..

What I would like to add on to this question is also the editors/video guys in corporate America that do this function inside a non-hollywood job, what other services does your unit/group provide other than editing and recording videos?

Thank so much..

Patrick
