Hi folks,
Background:
I am shooting events video for a group with 25+ performers. I am editing in Adobe Production Premium CS6. I will eventually move to CC when I "have to." (When CS6 gets too far behind. )
I am shooting in 4K multicam, with 2 Panasonic 4k cameras minimum, and external sound. I usually wind up with about 1.5 hours of 4k footage.
I want to do the syncing, multicam cutting, and basic grading into a final sequence in Premiere Pro CS6. I want to pass off my "cut" to a high school student interested in learning video, so that they can edit the sequence and export individual clips of 3-5 minutes, post this to Vimeo or YouTube, repurpose content, etc.
Question:
I am looking for a "lighter" editing suite that a relative beginner could use on their own machine. I have never looked at Adobe Premiere Elements. I will download a test copy to see what it looks like.
Would Premiere Elements be a decent, compatible editor for a beginner, maybe a photography student, who wants to learn about video?
Can Premiere Elements directly open a Premiere Pro sequence? I know that Elements 14 now supports 4k. Or I could render it as 1080 to lighten the load on their machine (machine is TBD maybe an i5 laptop with extra RAM?)
Is is there another NLE that is easier for a beginner with longer term aspirations? I am also thinking their migration path to Adobe CC.
I also have Lightroom 6.0, but I have never used the video editing capabilities. They look pretty basic.
I am going to start researching tools. I would appreciate any insight to save me a bit of time.
Thanks!
Best,
Michael
