Video card memory, 128MB or 256MB?

It seems the hold up on my new super computer is the video card. Because I went with a new style of motherboard that has PCI Express expansion slots instead of the soon to be old standard PCI slots, the new video card with 256 meg of memory has not been delivered yet. They do however have the NVIDIA card with 128MB DDR.

So my question is, would 128MB  be enough for Vegas or should I wait it out for the 256MB card. Now is a bad time for me to be computerless just wondering what I would be loosing to step down.

your video card will not effect the performance of vegas at all, except possibly when working with 3d projects. 256 meg video card is a bit of an overkill with a NLE system. You could definatly go with the 128MB card and not have any problems, even a 64MB card would be fine. Video cards effect 3D performance and will not have an impact on your NLE experience. Unless you like to play games to release stress :D

I own a Nvidia Geforce 5700 128mb 500mhz graphics card and it does good job or did anyway. My computer died on me and the only thing i am leaving is this card and some roms. Anyway this card is a whooping 500mhz speed and it is faster than standard 128mb 400mhz out there. Make sure when you buy a card it is relative in speed and amount of memory. For example you do not want a 256mb card going at anything below 300 for sure!
I love my card, there are a lot of cards like it, but this one is mine!

The only NLE which takes advantage of the video card is Liquid Edition. Vegas doesn't even use it for 3D rendering.

I think After effects uses it too, but I could be wrong, and that isn't really an NLE.

I got my computer last night and it is fast, very fast. I'll be putting it to the test this weekend once I get all my software loaded. Went with the 128 meg video card from NVIDIA. Seems to work awesome, now its time to become a power VEGAS user. Thanks for all your input.

Many times Hard drive speed is overlook.
For best preformance have 2 Serial ATA HD in RAID 0.
I got installed in one of my machine past weekend cost $110 for 160 Gbt Serial ATA ($220 +$4 cables)

Also just note Windows XP Pro can address only 4Gbt memory, and wont use above it(except if you have special vertion)

No, that's your file system. If you're using a FAT32 file system, you can only have files up to 4 GB. If you convert to NTFS (which either version of XP can do), then you can have unlimited file size.

Sorry i propobly wasn't clear.
4Gbt it is limitation on RAM memory not HD compacity or File size (btw i have files over 80Gbt each)
here more info on memory limitations:
