Video Capture problems in Vegas 6

I am using Vegas 6 and Dazzle DVC 150, and Vegas will not use the device to capture. I would capture using the bundled software that Dazzle came with, but Pinnacle Studio is a load of crap and doesn't work properly.

Please help, is there a codec or patch or something I can download to help Vegas recognize the device properly?

It gives this message when trying to capture:
"Cirrus Logic USB-DVR2 Source could not be opened. Please make sure it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user."

(for which it IS turned on, and it IS NOT being used by another device.)

Please help, thanks.

Vegas 6 will not recognize the device because it is not an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) capture device. The Dazzle DVC 150 captures an analog video and converts it to digital video. Vegas only captures DV footage that is already in digital (DV) format. You'll need another program to capture from your Dazzle. What kind of camera are you using? If it's miniDV you can just import with a FireWire cable. If you've got an analog camera (Hi8, 8mm, VHS-C) then you'll have to capture through the Dazzle.

Are there any capture programs that you would suggest? I am using an analog camera. It's just that the program to capture that came with Dazzle isn't reliable, but the Dazzle device is perfect. I just don't want to use the bundled software, so is there any other video capturing software that would be compatible with Dazzle DVC 150 that you can suggest?
Thanks.

I had a problem with the dazzel software preventing me from capturing with vegas. I had both programs on two different machines. Both machines had trouble captureing in vegas. I got the same error message. I was simply trying to capture and edit with vegas. The dazzel took over some function and was preventing me from capturing any footage. I contacted the Dazzel folks. They claimed to never have heard of this. I turned the dv deck off and on a couple times, unplugged it etc. It worked. However, it stills gives me trouble once and awhile. Becareful mixing the two.

Well, I used to use Dazzle dvc30 (or some low number like that) and had no trouble ever. But this new dvc150 has a DVD-encoder built in that automatically turns the captured video into a DVD-compatible mpeg, which I thought was maybe causing difficulties.....but I wouldn't understand why.....it should work just as well, but I'll try your trick of just plugging it in over and over again and praying that it will work, lol.

That is your problem right there. The Dazzle is capturing the footage as MPEG-2. Vegas captures standard DV footage. Vegas (as far as I know, could be wrong) will not capture MPEG-2 footage. It can EDIT it just fine, but capturing it is not something it was designed to do.
