Video Capture help pls...

Hi all,

I'm trying do a transfer from my DV camera to the hard drive thru firewire and keep getting a no device connected message. I tried to turn the comp. off and on with the camera powered on but my comp. just cant reconize the connection.

My computer was set up by a friend and it does have 2 usb and 1 firewire connection in front of the computer and same in the back. Upon checking with the device manager I see that there is a Legacy Video Capture Device and a Window Movie Maker software installed...so I assume that I do have a Video Capture capability. Below is my computer set up.

Machine name: ASUS_P4
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1022MB RAM
Page File: 275MB used, 2186MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810)

Do I need a different Firewire card?

Do you have XP? I understand they have a problem detecting DV camera through firewire...read the report below. I will call them later today to get their hotfix.

Thanks for your response Daniel, I've looked at the setting that you've mentioned and it does set on Ignore third party DV codec as default and
un-checked on Use Microsoft DV codec.

I will buy a different Capture card and see if it works.

Update. New OHMC 1394 card worked. Thx.
