Video cannot render correctly

I have imported several mpgs at 23.97 fps in a 29.97 fps sequence. I put them onto the timeline and I noticed that they were not rendered to begin with. So i pressed enter to render it and it gave me an error.

It said:
Error compiling video.
Unknown error.

So I started to render pieces and some rendered fine but others rendered but not at all correctly.

The rendered video is very jumpy and it seems as if the frames are out of order.

Like this:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
1 3 2 4 6 5 7 9 8

And some of the footage i try to render just gives me that same error.

What am I doing wrong?
Any help at all would be great!

Thanks!

I would open another project as a 24fps type, bring the mpegs in there, then export as an avi.....I don't know if that would help, but its worth a try.

i've had something similar happen - premiere is terrible at handling mpegs for god knows what reason .. you figure a pro-level app should handle these nowadays.. i usually just end up converting to AVI.. vegas does an amazing job reading just about everything.. i dont know it as well as pp though so i end up using vegas as a file converter :)
you may also try aftereffects if you have that to convert
