Video advertising broadcast standards

Hi DVXu,

I searched for information about this, and if I missed a thread feel free to correct me;

I have to produce my first advertising (15 sec), and I wanna know what are the general standards for broadcasters in terms of output format. I don't want to bother the tv channel if it's something I
basically have to know... What media do you, video gods use when it's time to send the final project to them? What format do you wrap it in? Do I have to upconvert it to ProRes HQ? Is there any audio gain rules?

If it's of any help, I'm using Final Cut Pro.

Like I said, maybe I missed some important information from another thread, if so, would you please point it to me?

Thank you very much

It depends on the outlet.Comcast accepts QuickTime DVCPROHD 720p by upload to their servers. Individual stations have different requirements. Since most of them use Avid (again with exceptions), your best bet is to contact the creative services person at the station and ask. Don't feel silly by asking because every station is different. Many of them have not yet joined the 21st century and still use various forms of tape. In larger markets it's different, it just depends. Audio should peak at about -12. Also generate Color bars and tone at-12db, it never hurts, even though many of those injesting never look at them. Also slate the spot with length, client and spot name.

Good luck!

Thank you very much that was exactly what I needed! I guess I'll just drop them a call when my project is ready like you said!

As for up converting, don't. Networks are still using DV/DVCPro 25 anamorphic for news. No HD for video yet, just studio and shows.

This is entirely wrong. XDCAM HD is widely used for news gathering.

Your first post was correct
Individual stations have different requirements.... ...every station is different.

In my market the some broadcasters accept HDCAM. Some accept DVC Pro HD. Some only accept HD via digital delivery (DG Systems).
Some only accept spots on Betacam SP. Call the station(s) and determine the delivery requirements up front.
