VHS Video Cleanup

I am trying to cleanup some old video that was taken on VHS tapes. I am wondering if there are any plug-ins or techniques to cleanup and enhance old VHS video. I would only know about the color correction in Premier, but I am sure that there are lots of people that have needed to salavge old VHS video.

Thanks for the tip, but I am not sure what MB means. Could you be a little more specific for the newbie uninformed user. Thanks!

Hey Micro, I think he means Magic Bullet. I think more specifically the Magic Bullet for After Effects. I'm not totally sure how deinterlacing is going to help clean up a VHS recording though, Hans.

One thing that will help your image a bit (for colour & contrast, not VHS noise), is the "Levels" effect.

Drop it on your clip, and go to an average frame, not too dark or too light. Instead of adjusting the controls like you normally would (just changing the numbers in Effects Controls), hit the little icon that looks like a dialogue box (it's beside the name "Levels" when you're in effects controls for your clip). You'll see what's called a Histogram, showing you the distribution of all the levels of brightness from black to white. Drag the little black triangle to a little past where you start getting vertical bars on the left (your blacks), and drag the white triangle to a little past where you start getting vertical bars on the right (your whites). This will make the image less washed-out. For a more dramatic change, move the black and white triangles more towards the centre.
