Hey I am looking for a VFX coordinator for my feature. For a standoff seen where most of my cast gets blown away. I do have some money to hire one, but my question is this how much do most VFX coordinators cost per day, I dont have that much money for it. Also where is the best place to find one.

Thanks,

Graham Robbins

There's several VFX guys around, not all of them are visible. You may also want to post in the Job section and include what country and region you're at.

A few people (dvxuser names) that come to mind, depending on how much you can afford are:

Mark Johnson from Fat Monster & Vislaw in L.A... http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/member.php?u=10478

Greggl (hi end VFX production company)... http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/member.php?u=10734

Postmaster (Germany)... http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/member.php?u=31135

There's several more around but those are the ones I've seen around most.
Good luck man.

Thanks thats very helpful do you happen to know the going rates for a newer, or armature VFX coordinator would be. I doubt I can afford a long time pro. This would help me a ton.

Thanks again,

In a nut shell it depends on what you can offer in return. What kind of exposure will the film get? Who's in the cast? Who's directing? What are your and the casts IMDB credits?

Those are rehtorical questions that I dont expect you to answer here, but they might help with securing some talent for less than the going rate.

Many people with major talent/exp will jump on board given certain circumstances if they believe in the backing and in the story regardless of the budget. Other than that I don't know what to say. Mostly because I don't know what the going rate is. :)
I'd ask the guys I posted above what thier opinion is and go from there.

I have a crew who is great at Adobe After Effects already on board enhancing muzzle flashes and a few other scenes, but I need a simple fall planned out, and then I have a rather large shoot out taking place so bullet hits. I was hoping to use squibs but im not sure again the cost on that but i know there is a cheaper Indy approach using fake blood and a bug sprayer. So seems like pretty simple things to anyone with experience. Thats pretty much it.
