VFR / Pulldown Cadence Error

Hi everybody. I'm receiving the "Breaks in VFR / Pulldown ..." error while trying to batch capture (w/pulldown removal) footage shot in 24PA. I'm running FCP HD on a 1.8 GHz IMac G5 with 1GB of RAM. I'm using a small Canon camera as my deck, and capturing to my 160 GB internal hard drive - it has plenty of room. I've repaired the disk permissions.

I've seen a bunch of posts on this error, but I haven't seen a post that offers any concrete solutions. Did I miss that post? Is there a concrete solution?

I've captured plenty of footage with the same settings, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem - please help!!!

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Jay

Check the tape for timecode breaks.
Make sure to start the capture after the camera started rolling.
Are you reliably able to get timecode from the Canon? Others have had some issues with the canon and fcp.
Maybe try the same tape and do a test capture of a section with the dvx.

Thanks, Scott. I'm sure I don't have timecode breaks in all of the 18 tapes I was trying to capture from (I'm sure I don't have t/c breaks in any of them, for that matter). I've captured dozens of hours of 24pa footage from the Canon, and this is the first time I've had a problem. Any other thoughts about what might be causing this, or how I can fix it? This is really driving me crazy!

Thanks,

Jay

Make sure you don't have any background applications running that might slow down your machine. Check your cable and connections. Consider cleaning the heads on your Canon.

Thanks again, Scott. I was running Norton antivirus software in the BG. I know that FCP's capture functions have issues w/Norton, so I disabled it before I started capturing. Other than that, nothing else is running in the BG. I cleaned the heads last night. Still no luck - same problem.

I'm so frustrated. I've got a few more tapes to capture, and thought of having to babysit them while they batch is killing me.

I guess I'll have to go back to the Bolex and Moviola.

You might consider actually removing Norton. I suspect it still has things installed even when temporarily disabled. I just know most FCP editors have forbiddin it to be installed on their machines.
