Veydra Mini Prime Micro 4/3 Mount Cinema Lenses On Kickstarter

So the proposed release date of January 2015 for the Veydra Primes has now been missed so I wonder if anyone has any updates?

Not bitching, just curious.

There was an update a week or so before the deadline. Quality control issues with the 25mm have delayed the shipping date, revised to late February. They said that they will be shipping some of the single lens rewards but the sets are delayed. I emailed HRC last week about what this means for the pre-orders but have yet to hear back from them.

Kickstarter update:

- "We will be shipping to all Backers on Monday and Tuesday February 23rd and 24th"
- "We are pleased to announce the all new Veydra 85mm"
- "We will also announce later this Spring a wider focal length than our current 12mm"
- "25mm, 35mm and 50mm all cover the effective portions of the sensor on the LS300 with no sensor mapping"

Thanks!

Got notice that Hot Rod Cameras is receiving their shipment of pre-orders tomorrow.

I just got a Kickstarter email confirmation that 4 of my 5 lenses are in the mail. The 12mm will come later in the year, of course.

Christmas is coming! Hope to receive my lens set early next week. Just wrapped last night on the project I had hoped to break them in on. Already cleared my schedule and turned down the nonpaying jobs over the next couple of weeks or so for a thorough gear maintenance session and some long overdue editing. So hopefully will have some free time to play and get some personal time in with my four new ladies.

Look who showed up today :)

The first image was taken with the Veydra 50mm wide open at T2.2 on a GH3. Second image was a Tokina 11-16 @ f/2.8

Shipped, only 5 more sleeps! Sucks waiting for the 12mm but I don't want a rush job on it either. And the delay from Veydra over the 25mm shows that they don't want to release a rush job either.

Picked up a set of Vedras last night from Hot Rod Cameras. There were several sets to choose from & I tested the mechanics of a handful of them. All fit similarly & the focus ring seemed identically dampened, so I just chose lenses from the top of the stack.

Great to hear. You probably tested mine for me, thanks mate.

Mine just cleared customs. Picking them up on the way home from work. Really excited, can't concentrate on my job now. :)

If only I hadn't booked a bunch of important meetings tonight. And I'm on set tomorrow night. Might be the weekend before I get a good look at them :(

The aftermath...

Unfortunately I might not even get to have a proper play this weekend. Unfortunately people who are good for my career keep asking me to work. Dammit. Can't they see I need some special time with my new ladies? I've only had time to throw on one lens and point it at a couple of things before I had to head out for a business meeting, followed by a location scout at a petrol (gas) station. The station became a thing of beauty through this lens. No footage yet unfortunately, didn't have much time and had to focus on the job preparing a jib shot for the weekend. But just what I am seeing on the BMPCC LCD has already blown my mind. Even on the LCD it is obvious how much of an upgrade these are from the vintage Nikons I've been using, even with speed booster. No focus breathing that I can detect. Bokeh up the wahzoo. The lens I tested seemed to be pretty solid on the MFT mount. Can't wait to rig this thing and put it through its paces. Wish I didn't need to sleep. Or work. Dammit.

Mostly lovin' the Vedryas, though it seems differently than you, but haven't used them in anger yet.

One note: If your going to use a Follow Focus it's best to support the lens. A rails mounted Matte Box which rigidly clamps to the lens helps reduce torquing at the m4/3 mount, especially as you bump against the inner/outer focus limits.

Alternatively you could use a Follow Focus with end stops, but the Matte Box solution is more robust & it may be best to use both solutions concurrently.

Another note: It's impossible to read the len's focal length when it's covered by a clamp-on Matte Box, or Shade, so I attached P-Touch labels with this info on the focus scale's ring.
