very stupid questions about a certain TRANSITION

so i've started shooting music videos and there's this one transition effect that is very basic that I'm trying to pull while I'm editing, but I can't figure out how to do it or what it's called.

it's the type of transition that happens after 0:28 in this video:

where there's 2 scenes and in a few seconds we see each scene a few times..

basically there's song where you hear a lot of claps and sometimes there's about 8 claps in a matter of seconds and I want to ALTERNATE between 2 clips.

What's the BEST way to do this ?

It depends probably in what you are editing with. You could key frame it by hand, that way, you can make sure its on the claps. If I were doing it, I'd do it in After Effects and just create an expression with the same BPM as the claps, that would modify the opacity on one layer.

I'm editing on FCP7 is it possible to create an expression with the same BPM ?
I could do it by hand but there's so many claps it would take too much time
isn't there a preset transition I can buy or something and set it up so it does the job automatic ? like program it to switch every 2 seconds or every second you know ?

It's for random, but it looks like you might be able to use the blink plugin and just modify the parameters and keyframe them. I tried to search for "BPM mapping" and stuff like that but nothing popped up. I used to do all sorts of audio related stuff in Shake, but that doesn't exist anymore sadly.

It's a really simple task. Are you just trying to come up with a way to do it faster? I think the easiest way to do this would be to set up your two clips with one in V2 and the other in V1, then just manually cut the one that's in V2 every few frames (razor tool) and delete every other clip that gets created. You can leave the clips in V2 where they are or drag them down into V1 to overwrite the spots in the clip that's originally in V1, but it won't make any difference visually.

yes I understand, I'm trying to find an easier way, you gotta admit it would be nice if there was a transition effect that automatically did it, it would save some time.

But then what's the point of editing? Why not just run your video through a plug in and have it automatically edited? Truth is the only way you are going to get far is if you A) stop complaining how long things take & B) Take your time with your projects to do them rite.

rite? :) I look for plugins all the time to help with tasks that are mundane in editing. Have you used Particular in comparison to the built in particle systems in AE? HUGE difference. I bought Particular because of it, and it saves me money. In fact, I was just working on a music video and wanted to add this same effect, and I too starting thinking about other ways to do it that were faster. Sure, you can keyframe it, but why would you want too? It doesn't make your end result better because you worked harder. Especially in time sensitive situations where changes to the music video edit can throw off everything.

My dad always told me one thing "Son, work smarter, not harder". The truth is, the only way you are going to get far is by not recreating the wheel when you don't have to. The important part is the result, not how hard it was to get there.
