Very old Mole Fixture help

Hoping a more experienced grip/DP can give me some knowledge on this subject.

I just bought what appears to be a pretty darn old M-R Fresnel (for $80 with no globe). It's a type 751 "Baby Combo". I can't find much info on it other than a scan of an old ad from when it was introduced (looks like 60's or 70's at the latest, maybe earlier). It seems to be a 407 body, but with built in barn doors (mine has 4-way, which the ad says was an option). Mine is serial number 851, so maybe 1st or 2nd year of production.

My issue is that it says "Use Medium Bipost Globes" and quick search around has me a bit confused as to exactly which base this is. Is it the G22?

Any info on this light would be appreciated.

Just realized this should have gone in lighting gear if a mod wants to move it.

Also pretty certain that yes it's the G22 base. The issue is you can't get the t24 bulb shape anymore.

I was convinced I knew an alternative but I've been trying all my ideas on http://www.donsbulbs.com and can't find one with the centre in the same place - all the ones I tried have the filament in the wrong place - all too short!

I was bidding on that early on with the thought of changing out the carrier but let you buy it instead as it was going to be cost prohibitive. ;) sorry.

Hey, no sweat, got it at my max bid. That was as high as I was gonna go as well with the potential to have to do a swap on it.

We'll see what happens. I may stumble across a deal that lets me do the swap.

What would be the potential effects of using the correct base with the wrong bulb shape/filament position? Focus won't work.... FIRE! hehe

If nothing else I could clean it up and sell it as a decorator piece.

Interesting...
It LOOKS like a regular ole EGR 750W with the G22 base would mount. Unless there are two different bases both referred to as a "medium bi post". The issue would be that the EGR is 1.5 inches shorter (5" vs 6.5") so it's likely the focus would be limited if it worked at all.

My wife got back into town yesterday to find me repainting a dozen Mole lights scored off eBay. Should have seen the look on her face, and then she said... You do realize we have a dinner party here Saturday. Ahhhh.

I've basically fallen way too in love with them. I scored a midget and a mini cheap a few months back and now I'm out of control.

I collect and restore old motorcycles as well. That old school, built like a tank, nothing fancy, industrial strength aspect of them is just awesome.

I understand the addiction. I have restored nearly a dozen old Ferraris as well as a couple of historic race cars, but can no longer do that where I live as I have some neighbors that suck. I still have a vandalized Ferrari in the backyard with $20K of damage.

Ouch Its been a while since I've seen those old moles that use those expensive bulbs, no wonder they go for cheap. I almost fell for two 2ks for 150/ea to realize the bulbs are alone a good 150$. Might as well hunt them down on ebay

FYI.
Yep, EGT bulbs work just fine. Light arrived and the base was loose. A screw had fallen out. Found it rattling around inside, tightened everything up, put a fresh EGT 750W in, flipped the switch, bingo. 750 mole Fresnel with barn doors $125 with shipping and new bulb.

So if you see "medium bi post" on an old fixture it means the G22 base that EGT and EGR bulbs use.

Thanks guys. That basically completes the "basic" light kit I have been building over the past 5 months.
1 200 Mini ($130)
1 200 Midget ($125)
1 650 Teenie open face ($90)
1 750 Baby Combo (the one we have been discussing here) ($125)
1 1K Solarspot ($250 and came with 1 working and 2 spare bulbs)

Based on rental patterns on my first 4 films. I can do 95% of anything I need to do with those lights. For right at $750.

Not a bad start at all. Especially for only $750!

I had my first casualty today.
A Mole baby soft light arrived damaged from shipping with the mounting yoke cracked in two.
