Very high speed object tracking camera system. :)

It can track a fast moving ball, using 2 mirrors. Even amazing, by replacing the camera with a projector they can project images onto a fast moving object like a small ball!

He seems quite pleased with himself.
I would! it looks like an interesting contraption not only for sports broadcasting as he mentions, but for many more situations, as special effects for live performances, user input in many situations, etc.

I think more of replacing the camera with a weapons system for special forces or law enforcement in acquiring a moving target. :)

LOL, we were thinking the same thing, Ted.

I would be interested in understanding the tracking protocol they are using. I noticed the ball is orange in all the shots. Are they color-keying?

I think it's an invasion of the ping pong balls privacy...who do they think they are anyhow? WHATS NEXT??? :)

Imagine if this tech is used in the "defense" establishment (it might already be, who knows) It can be tweaked to detect human faces not just orange pingpong balls.

Imagine the future battlefield in say, north korea, when the NK army charges in masse across with border holding human shields in front, at the touch of a button, weapons system immediately recognize the green helmets of the enemy and mow them down and leaving the bareheaded hostages untouched in a few seconds of precise rapid firing. Kinda crazy but...

Of course the video camera can capture the carnage also precisely in 4k. ;)

It would certainly make the Kinect better. Imagine this used while filming a scene in an action film.
