Versatile Equipment?

j,

We have flown an XL1 without an external monitor. It was close to the top of our weight range. We're looking at trying out an XL2 as soon as we can but we cater to the medium and lighter cameras like the DVX100a, FX1, Z1, and others in the 1-6 pound range.

Update...9/24/06...
We have a beefed-up arm that will fly the XL2, HD100, HVX200 and other similar sized cameras. I works great!

I have messed around with a lot of stabilizers, but nothing beats that SC flyer. I know it's expensive, but if you're making money doing this, I highly recommend it.
As far as dollies go, the Indie dolly is fantastic --- quick set-up and smooth as butter (warm butter, not the "just-out-of-the-fridge" kind).
I also have the EZFX Junior Jib which is fantastic for getting a little bit of movement in tight spots. Combine it with the Indie dolly, and you're money, baby. I've even used the camera on a jib, but "hand-held" it on my shoulder to give it a little bit of movement --- up, down, left, right. It's a neat look because you get the movement of hand-held, but it's steady and doesn't tilt.

Thanks engr,

Our intent it to make a real good system that indie filmakers can buy and still be able to pay their rent later.

After building enough PILOTS our prices will probably change soon as manufacturing costs and aluminum prices have gone WAY up. Our rig is built from all aluminum and not steel like many of the others so the cost of materials is a lot more and welding is more expensive too. Not a ton of people out there who can weld auminum or even have the equipment to weld aluminum. Just the welding equipment alone can set you back a bit.

The PILOT isn't mass produced so there are a limited number of them available each month. Our goal is to assemble and test them and then put the ones that are built up for sale. We don't want to get into having a lot of orders that we can't deliver in a timely manner. This has been a problem with other systems out there. Live and learn.
