Vehicle Branding for Production Company?

Has anyone tried experimenting or perhaps tried seriously to brand their video production company details on a panel van or even just a small run around type of car?

I would like to know if you got any phone calls or leads from this form of advertising and if you feel it is a worth while form of advertising for a video production company?

My thoughts... I was going to graphic wrap my Sprinter van, but ended up using magnetic branding so I could remove them traveling through trouble areas. But as a matter of fact, just this past weekend I removed all branding from my van. It really didn't generate new business, and gave thief's a target to gun for. Things may be different in your area.

interesting idea for using magnetic ones.

Any thoughts on why it didn't work? Do you think it would of been different with a full car wrap?

I'm guessing my area is worse but I am thinking a panel van with blocked out windows and it won't really give away the equipment on board idea because I will be marketing more of a video solution for businesses type of idea rather than a "i do video production and this is the equipment i use" marketing approach.

besides that i don't want to get caught on the security issue, I would really like to know if anybody has had success in video production with advertising on their vehicle?

My opinion, car wrapping might work for plumbers, repair shops... general public interest stuff. But when it comes to a more specialized kind of business the chances of someone being interested in a video and reading your car's ad are scarce. It may be interesting if you are attending a specialized event, then you can use the magnetic ones.

True, but just like plumbers and repair shops, websites work for video companies too. Were not all that different. I would like to think that an entrepreneur or business owner who maybe never thought about video before might see the car and start to think of video as a possible marketing tool.

I need a plumber and i look in the yellow pages.

I'm sure some video production company has used vehicle branding before, i would be interested to know how it worked out for you.

Yep, tha'ts what I was talking about when I mentioned that there might be a chance for someone interested in making a video seeing you car. But I don't really believe someone might suddenly want to make a video of their business after seeing your car. But who knows it might happen. In the end marketing isn't a black and white area.

I recently ordered a couple of magnets with our logo from Vista Print since they had a 50% off sale. My thought is for $16, how can you go wrong? We do a lot of wedding videos, so it might work nice for us since we're providing a service people sometimes actively search for. Worst case scenario, I gain some credibility with my clients. Think about it - if a plumber shows up in a van with a logo on it, they instantly gain more credibility in my head than one with an unmarked vehicle.

I like the idea of magnets because they can be removed easily, especially when they're not needed or wanted. I'd say go for it! You've got almost nothing to lose.

Thank you for the encouragement. It would be great if you could come back here and let me know how you fared with your magnetic signage. I think in this line of business, even one client can potentially make even a large advertising commitment worthwhile.

Don't know about South Africa, but in my part of the US, adding signage to any vehicle means that it must be registered as a commercial vehicle. This is true even for passenger cars. In NYC such vehicles cannot be parked on the streets overnight but can be parked in loading zones during the day. AbelCine labels it's vehicles mostly for these functional reasons, but we spent a lot of money to do it nicely for the marketing aspect.

This.

Plus I freaking hate thieves and this is like taunting them.

We don't have any enforcement of that type of regulation here in South Africa. There is rules and laws for the mobile billboard industry and they have to be licensed etc.

Theft in South Africa is a part of life. I am more worried about being hi-jacked than i am from being robbed. As it is now i can never leave any valuables in my vehicle, even if it is a standard sedan and the equipment is hidden in the boot. So it would make no difference in my day to day activities having a sign that says i make videos on the car. In-fact it will actually reduce the chance of a hi-jacking because the hijackers will be less willing to steal something that is easy for the police to identify.

For what it's worth, there are theft rings just for high end video gear, where once they steal your Epic package, it's shipped out of your country and sold.

I know some of you will take offense to this, but I always carry a .45 ACP. The last thing I need is to be beaten, laying on the side of the road in some other state, while thugs drive away in my van laughing at how funny I looked while the baseball bat was hitting me.

I thought south africa was bad, sounds like you guys have to keep one eye open when you sleep in case someone tries to steal your gear.

A gun?! Jeez...it's hard to imagine living in a country where the average person can just have a firearm on them.

I had to go through training, and both local & federal law enforcement background checks to carry concealed weapons. I also have special federal permits to own and use silencers, short barrel rifles, and a couple of other goodies I will not disclose here. The point being, I did everything legally!

And I guess it's hard for some folks to imagine carrying a weapon, until you have actually had your life threatened. I know I would have never thought about carrying a firearm, until it happened to me.

All the best!

Dave

The only ones maybe profiting from branded cars here where I live are rental houses and TV stations ;)
I´ve never seen wedding filmers brand their car, but I can imagen this would add to all the "your wedding as a hollywood picture" image they are trying to sell.
Freelancers and smaller production companies use their cars as tax write offs, so most are more interested in an easy sell off (popular models, popular colors),
than driving a bright orange van with all-over print that might fit their corporate design...

It's possible you'd get calls and enquiries through the branding on a van or car.

But, for a video production company, in my opinion it comes off just a little cheesy. Spend your marketing money elsewhere.
