Can anyone tell me has any films been edited using Vegas? Is so could you name a few.

If not, do I dare attempt? Or should I fess up and buy a Mac and FCP?

Hollywood films? Probably none. Most films are edited with Avid, but some production houses are moving over to FCP because it's cheaper.

And better.

I am a Vegas user and last I looked, PC's and Vegas were a fraction of the price of MAC and FCP and always have been...has something changed recently? I also agree that the platform isn't what makes you good...I would do a lot of research on both because each platform has it's users that swear by it...sample both if you can...I know you can get a free trial period at SONY for Vegas...I would venture to say that there must be something similar with apple...your choice may depend on your budget or even whether you prefer PC or MAC...I do not believe that one is greatly superior to the other in all aspects...Major motion pictures primarily use AVID...Just my opinion.

for Vegas go here http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/default.asp

for MAC, I am sure someone else may have a link...

I saw a film done here locally in Las Vegas, NV a while back that was edited on Vegas 6 (at the time). http://www.sirenthemovie.com/
I have to tell you that the film looked very good. Quite impressive.

I personally use Vegas at home but currently am taking some classes at CCSN and both are using Mac/FCP. So I'm kinda in the same dilemma you are.

I have looked into a Mac Pro and FCP via apple and they do offer student discounts which is of some help.

I do see quite a few requests for FCP editors on Mandy as well.

But, as stated earlier, it's not so much the NLE used but how you use it. This was also told to me by my instructor as well. What I'm learning in Edting I can be employed on most NLE's.

Good luck.

If you're looking to get a JOB as an editor in Hollywood, then you need to learn Avid, and FCP wouldn't hurt. There are some broadcast companies (including ABC) which use Vegas, but feature film post houses don't. There's no reason Vegas COULDN'T be used; it's just not. But a few years ago. you could have said the same about FCP.

If you're editing your own material and want to make a professional-quality film, then Vegas has everything you could possibly want a, a toolset which leaves FCP in the dust, and the best 24p integration of any NLE. (To say nothing of being a lot less expensive in both software and hardware.)

So . . . it depends on why you're asking.
