Vegas, Windows, and a MAC

Not presently, no. But there's some question that the MacIntels might be able to.

Why would you WANT to, though?

not to hate on vegas, but i'm really craving a mac so i can use FCP.
so i agree with david, why do that when you can just use final cut?

Ohhhhh . . . that's not what I said AT ALL.

I like the Mac OS -- but it's not so much better that it's worth the EXTREME brand premium you have to pay for slower hardware.

And between Vegas and FCP, Vegas wins in many key categories, not the least of which being handling of 24p.

If Vegas only ran on a Mac, I'd have a Mac. But if it ran on both, I'd run it on a Windows machine, without question.

And if I had a Mac and could run either Vegas or FCP, I'd run Vegas.

I thought they have better performance and graphics capabilities.
They do not. On balance, they are slower at twice the price, and as for graphics capabilities, well, they use the same cards.

To say nothing of inflexibility when it comes to upgrading, etc..

Sorry, I thought he asked why I would want to use a Mac. I have tried Premiere Pro, Avid, and have looked at FCP but they all seem to be more complex than what I desire. I know that you guys like it because of all the features but all I want to do is cut videos and add some effects. Make it as simple as possible.

You probably want to look at the consumer-aimed NLEs, then. There are consumer versions of Premiere and Vegas, and you could look at Studio, as well.

I like vegas, I was wondering about the computer. Since you've cleared it up I think I realize what I want. I've heard some pros recommending Vegas for being intuitive while having all the necessary features. What I want to avoid is haveing a 1,000 page manual.

I think it's popular by association; it gives people confidence (Professional Grade  ). People think you're a nobody for using anything else.

What kind of computer do you recommend to get the best from Vegas? I was looking at:

Three things to worry about:

Get the fastest processor you can.

Get a large hard drive -- separate from your system drive -- dedicated to your data.

Get as much RAM as you can.

In that order.

Video card doesn't matter, though dual-display does help.
