I am about to cry. 12 hour of editing..and now it hangs at 23% or crashes every time I try to re open a project. Uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas no change. What can I do ..please help.

Vegas 9pro 64bit c and d...Windows 7 ultimate 64bit.

Thanks

opens all other project files fine. Just not the important one.

Vegas also forgets where footage is located on my hard drive. I will have just strings of clips go offline or they will be on the time line but the preview window will be black. If you render it..still black with audio.. VEGAS SUCKS

Are the other projects (which open fine) stored on the same hard drive?

Is it a completely separate physical drive? (Separate from the C: drive, that is.)

Is it an internal drive? Or external? If it's external, is it firewire or USB?

Have you tried copying all of the files for the project to another drive and opening it from there? It would be helpful to know if you were able to copy the files to another location without errors.

It was all on the same drive. What I had to do..was just remove a couple of clips from the source folder..and it came up. These were raw files from my 7d. I also upgraded to the latesr quick time..and that is what I think killed it. Downgraded quicktime..then I had to copy and past each clip into a new time line.

Vegas will just forget where the source file are sometimes..they just go off line or turn red or black on the time line. Really pisses me off!

The only time I've seen similar problems is with external USB drives which have their drive letters automatically allocated by Windows - plug them in in the wrong order (and/or plug in other devices like CD/DVD drives) and a particular drive can suddenly have a different letter, totally confusing Vegas or any other program which had stored the old locations.

I had a similar problem some time ago. I noticed it always would hang and crash on a particular clip, so I removed that clip from the folder and the project was then able to load. Not sure why that particular one caused such an issue, but I ended up not needing it so never pursued it any further.

Well, you're using files of a type it has no official support for. If you transcode them to something else, the problems will likely stop.
