Vegas, Vista, and stuttering

Hey everyone,

I recently installed Vista Ultimate 64 and vegas 7.0e. Everything runs fine except for one thing... my video playback will run well for about 2 seconds, then it will pause on a frame for maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of a second... and this just keeps repeating as I play a continuous video stream. In other words, it isn't just occurring when I first open vegas and the program is still loading... it is a constant occurrence. The audio playback does not pause... it is flawless.

This never happened to me with Windows XP...

I should also add that this is the first time I am using vegas with identical hard drives in a RAID0 configuration... which I thought was supposed to slightly improve performance... not degrade it... so I doubt that is the issue...

Anyways, here are my system specs:

Core 2 Duo e6400
2GB Corsair
2x250GB WD SATA
Asus Geforce 7600GT
Gigabyte DQ6 mobo

So... it doesn't seem like a hardware thing, right?

All I can think is that Windows Vista is constantly accessing my HDDs for some reason... and so when I am trying to play video back the disks are jumping around trying to read more than just the video data. If I pick up a third hard drive just for Vista and apps and left the RAID0 drives just for media storage/playback, do you think this would solve this issue?

Let me know what you guys think of this, if you have ever experienced something similar, and if you have any other ideas as to what it may be.

Thanks,

Tejay
