My Brother runs a software company that sells vegas 4.0 and last week he told me that there will be no Vegas 5.0, it will change to a Sony name and you are correct, will be sold with thier video editing systems. However, contrary to the above, the software will be sold directly by sony to users who have no systems, as there is already a large userbase for the product. I have no idea who he heard this from, but I assume it was official. ???
I will ask him for more details when i talk to him next week.

Nice little Forum here; nice to have a place to talk about the DVX and Vegas Video finally.
Anyways, I think Vegas is so Sucessfull that not even Sony is dumb enough to can it. I was under the impression they were working as normal all the same people just with a new owner.

I read some dumbo from BH photo blabbing his mouth that he has real bad news on the Future of Vegas. I dont care if he knew or not, If I was Sonic Foundry I would sue his ass off for slander. BH just lost a customer.

This is such a crock of crap. Vegas is the best NLE out there below FCP and Avid. No way is it not going to grow.

Has anyone heard official word from Sonic Foundry? you would think they would squash this rumour pretty quick so some editors that are sitting on the fence dont jump off.

Checked this out with my Sony relatives...
There will be newer editions as Sony plans to fully implement and support this product, possible under a new name, possibly under the same name...whichever the consumer responds to most.
It will be sold with the VIAO and separately...
it's really to your monotary advantage to purchase it with the VIAO.
I can't believe that anyone thought that a product this good would just die like that.

Everyone relax. There might be a name change in the future, but thank goodness it was bought by Sony and not Avid or somebody that would just crush it. Sony will support this product, and more good stuff is on the way.
