Even if there are no effects or alterations the rendering process is always long.

Agree?

No. What are you trying to do, specifically? What file format are you rendering to? And what do you consider "long" -- compared to what?

Kind of depends on what OS your using; whats yours out of curiosity?

You can only use Windows . . .

Sorry I meant specs (Processor, RAM etc)

Ah. Yes, that definitely matters.

I am mostly comparing it to Premiere Pro. Vegas probably takes 2 or 3 times longer to render than Premiere when simply wanting to be ready for outputing.

It even takes a decent amount of time when there have been absolutely no alterations to what was imported.

That is truely stange, as I find that it renders much faster than premiere pro ever did for me. you might want to check your project settings and make sure that there is no addition rendering going on when you are editing your footage. If there are no alterations, Vegas doesn't need to render anything, it just needs to write it back to your hard drive, compiling the avi. Are you useing 24p, 24pa 30p or 60i footage? make sure that if you are editing in a 24p timline that you are using 24pa footage, otherwise vegas needs to rerender 24pN footage. 24pN footage can be edited natively (without rerender) in a 60i timeline if you go to your preferences and uncheck (remove 2:3 pulldown). Hope that helps.

I have been using 24pa footage. I will see if there is something funky going on.

I just went thru this today and found that my long render to a simple AVI file was indeed due to my "allow removal of pulldown" being checked in preferences. Was driving me crazy, but that one liitle thing made the render speedy as hell.

Maybe I am confused about pulldown, don't you usually want the pulldown removed? Or maybe you usually don't, I can't remember.

What are your specs?

If shooting 24p you DO want to allow pulldown.

Re: Vegas takes an amazing amount of time to rende

Re: Vegas takes an amazing amount of time to rende

David,
What youre saying is that if you have shot in 24p normal, you need to use just the 2:3 pulldown only. Is this correct?

Don't follow. Did you mean to post this in another thread?

Re: Vegas takes an amazing amount of time to rende

I have shot one wedding in 24p and another 24pa and then one in 30p. All these settings are starting to get a little confusing.

OK, but I still don't understand the question. Can you rephrase it?

Re: Vegas takes an amazing amount of time to rende

Sorry David,
I ment to add to the render question from the previous post.
Ive noticed that pre renders take awhile also. Was mostly curious in the settings from shooting 24p, 24pa and 30+60i.

Re: Vegas takes an amazing amount of time to rende

The settings for the pre-renders?

What do you normally use?

So if I am shooting in 24pa, I ALWAYS want to NOT allow pulldown removal no matter what my final intentions?

Also with 24pa, when choosing the project properties, which do I choose (DV, 2:3, 2:3:3:2...?)

Re: Vegas takes an amazing amount of time to rende

Re: Vegas takes an amazing amount of time to rende

No . . . you want to allow pulldown removal at capture. That has nothing to do with your renders.

The original pulldown doesn't affect whatever pulldown you might want to choose for output. If originally 24pN, you can still render out to 2:3:3:2 if you want, and vice versa. Generally, if you want to make a 24p DVD, then choose 2:3. If you want to send the footage to someone else to edit further, then choose 2:3:3:2.

I haven't noticed an appreciable difference between rendering out with pulldown inserted and rendering out without it. If someone else has, then it's probably a quirk of his system.
