Vegas slowing to a crawl trying to render .m2t footage

Revisiting an old project, a mixed project. Original footage 720p from HVX.
Additional pickups filmed by someone else, don't know their camera, but it's .m2t extentsion, 29 fps, 1440 X 1080.

I pre-render their stuff into .avi's ("HDV 720 24p intermediate") and bring them into my overall timeline ("HDV 1280X720, 24p" properties template) then for the final render (mpeg 2 for DVDA).

Not too long ago, Raylight started giving me a lot of problems, so I started rendering with Huffyuv. Not sure if that's relevant.

the Problem:
When I try to render this .m2t footage, the render times are now insanely long, sometimes my CPU will only work around 30% (AMD 3.4 GHz dual core), and the footage is often "messed up" when done rendering. (messed up = wrong length, black beg/end of clip, sound not syncing, overall way too long).

I've tried going back to the Raylight render plugin, but same result.

I just tried rendering a 2 minute clip... And it said it was going to take over 2 hours!!!

As I said, I'm actually re-visiting this project. I've done renders and pre-renders with this footage before, and I don't remember any of this happening.

Also, I defraged the hard drive; it's got 20% free space, so shouldn't be that.

???

Are you actually rendering this using the DVD Architect 24p settings under MPEG-2?

If so, you shouldn't have any sound at all in the file.

Also, you are setting a loop region and checking the box in the render dialogue to render only that?

Which "render plugin"?

What kind of effects? How many layers?

When I render for DVDA, then yes. Though I sometimes tweak the bitrate settings. Though this problem is also occuring when rendering the m2t files to an avi (which I would fit in with my original HVX footage, and then render to mpeg 2 DVDA template).

Yes, that's true. When I say it's not in sync, really what I'm saying is that the length is altered, and therefore, no longer matches the ac3 audio file. (I already have older versions in DVDA, so when I'm rendering these files, they're eventually replacing files already in use in DVDA; they should be the same length).

Also, you are setting a loop region and checking the box in the render dialogue to render only that?

Yup!

Which "render plugin"?

The option in the drop-down list for which codec you want to use. I had to switch from Raylight to Huffyuv. Raylight was giving me an error of "Wanting a Compressed File." I've been in contact with DVFilm, but they can't help. In all seriousness, I think they'd just prefer I get the ultra. This shouldn't be the issue though, cause like I said, it's way too long regardless of using Huffyuv or Raylight.

No effects, only intermittent text messages in a track above the video and audio tracks.

I'm typing this to add more text 'cause it's telling me the message is too short LOL! Must be cause I included my responses within DJ's quote!!!

Oh, one more thing; these longer, screwed up avi's and mpeg2's that I'm rendering, hell they won't even play right either on the Vegas timeline, or in DVDA preview window!

I believe this may be an issue of it being your computer, not Vegas.

I thought so too; it's why I cleaned up my hard drive. I had also installed a bunch of media programs, and thought maybe I somehow messed up/replaced some codecs somewhere along the line...

...however, the solution was much simpler:

Also, you are setting a loop region and checking the box in the render dialogue to render only that?

ARGHH! This must have been it!

I've been doing NLE since college, the old Adobe Premiere.

I've done all sorts of projects all over the country...

AND I MAKE SUCH A NEOPHYTE MISTAKE!?!

Yes, somehow, the "loop region" became unchecked. Don't ask me how, I have no idea!

I apologize for wasting everyone's time with such a ridiculously basic mistake, and thanks for your help!

;)
