Hi guys, I had troubles with my Windows XP so had to reinstall it, after I installed Vegas and captured video it was ok, but when I was rendering file it simply froze. Haven't succeeded to render it till the end. Any suggestions highly appreciated!
Vegas Captures DV from a raw DV tape as an Avi ? Doesnt it save it as DV itself to maintain quality ? If its saving it as an avi is it uncompressed or vice versa or are there settings to choose from ?
DV is a codec of avi, so basically when you capture in vegas you get a DV-AVI file. This is compressed the same way it is compressed on tape. While DV is not an uncompressed format many people refere to it as RAW or ucompressed DV. It is in fact neither as DV is simply a compression used under the AVI format.
Technically speaking, some other DV decoders can give you 'higher' quality if you convert to uncompressed AVI, or 4:2:2 Y'CbCr. This isn't really that useful unless you want to key footage and you like the workflow advantage (you can do the same in Vegas, but it's much slower).
On many decks for example, the decoder will upsample the chroma with a better algorithm than nearest neighbour. Think Photoshop: When you make an image bigger, you have different resampling operations to choose from. Bilinear does a better job than nearest neighbour. Just doing nearest neighbour (which is what Vegas does) will give you chunky chroma that doesn't key well.
