Vegas Settings for 24p and 60i

I just shot my first wedding in 24p and am now editing in vegas 6.0. I did shot some of the bride getting ready in 60i for slow motion. I know this has been answered many times, but can anyone please tell me what boxes must b checked when capturing and when opening a new vegas timeline what settings are needed to edit 24p? Also, can you edit 24p and 60i on the same timeline?

You don't have to change any capture settings; just capture.

Yes, you can edit anything on the same timeline. Use a 24p timeline, though. For the slo-mo, drop the 60i clips onto the timeline then slow to 40%.

on vegas 6.0 when you got to file-> capture it asks internal or external, what is the difference?

in Project properties are you using DV 24p (720X480 23.97fps) ?
with Frame Rate (23.976 (IVTC Film))?

Under Options -> preferences should (allow pulldown removal when opening 24p dv) be checked?

If it wasn't when clips were added and edited on the timeline and i check it in the middle of editing will it apply to the clips already added?

OH, thanks for the quick reply

Internal would be if you had a decklink card, or using HDV capture, etc. You want external, because your DV capture device is external.

Project properties are irrelevant to capture. Just stick with default capture settings.

Pulldown removal should definitely be checked.

Do NOT mess with the default settings of anything unless you know what you're doing. They're already optimized for capture and edit, and you don't need to change anything. This goes for 24p, 24pA, 60i, 30p . . .

It should apply it to the clips already added. To check, right-click on the clips and look at the Properties. Should tell you if the pulldown was removed.

If not, you can probably switch the project properties to 60i, then back to 24p, and should be fine.

Last reply what if I want to put some of the 60i footage on a 24p timeline in real time, no slow mo will this be ok? Could you explain what happens if 60i footage is on a 24p timeline and if 24p is on a 60i timeline? Thanks agian for your help

Yes, you can do that, no problem. When you render as 24p, though, it will convert the footage to 24p and it will look more film-like, though not as good as the 24p. All the standard caveats apply -- loss of resolution in those clips, increased judder if the movement is too quick, etc..

If you want the 60i to retain its 60i characteristics and appearance, then edit in 60i. The 24p will still look like 24p.

Ok, thanks for all that help.

just a side not the wedding was shot in salisbury, nc not far from you i guess
