hey guys. i just got my hv20 the other day and something in sony vegas 7 has been frustrating me.

-i import my 1440x1080 or 1280x720

-but when i render it out as a 1440x1080 (or 1280x720) it squeezes it and comes out in 4:3 instead of 16:9.

it only does this when i render as an AVI intermediate. when i render as a wmv it comes out true 16:9 no problem.

does anyone know what's going on here?

What kind of AVI?

When I render an uncompressed AVI intermediate, it never sets the 16:9 flag. Version 6 or 7...don't have 8 yet. I always have to go in and set the PAR manually on the events.

Yeah, it's a bug that poped up in the Movie Studio 8 version too, but was fixed in the 8.0b version. I think Vegas Pro 8 has this bug fixed too. At least for Cineform .avi.

But Cineform isn't uncompressed.

It doesn't just not set the 16:9 flag; it simply renders as PAR 1.000 (which isn't widescreen or NTSC or PAL). It's one thing which has always annoyed me.

1440 x 1080 is a 4:3. 1920 x 1080 is 16:9. It's likely rendering it out at 1440 x 1080 with a 1.333 aspect ratio, but if you try and play the movie in something like windows media player, it'll play back as if it were square pixels. You can either render it out at a 16:9 ratio with square pixels, or letterbox it.

Ive had this issue before. Yes like most posters say. Ive also found it to play the inccorect aspect ratio in media player. But try it in winDVD player or something like that. Windvd honors PAR settings on mpegs and the window stertches to fit the video on start.
