VEGAS RENDER Process STOPS prior to completion?

This is getting very frustrating for me and I would appreciate recommendations. I have Vegas Pro Vers 12 (build 770) 64bit software.
It is loaded onto an AMD computer with Phenom II X6 1090T Processor, 16GB RAM, Two AMD Radeon Crossfire HD 6900 Series graphic cards with 12012 MB on board graphics memory. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate.

I shoot with Panasonic AG AVC camera (either a 90 or 130) and transfer the AVCCAM files to my computer. Nothing special about the shoot, usually a small stage with a couple of people on it with camera on a tripod.

My Vegas "Project Properties" are set at : HD 1080-60i (1920X1080, 29.970 fps). I edited my original footage down to a 50 minute program and rendered (loop area) at MainConcept AVC/ACC (*MP4, avc) - Internet HD 720p . The render location was to a 500 GB NTFS internal drive that had 465 GB of available space. I used Microsoft's "Process Explorer" to set Vegas Priority to "High" and started the render. It processed 44% and STOPPED.

I restarted the render and changed the Render Drive to my RAID 10 system (Drive V) and the same thing happened. It rendered to 43% and stopped. I re-edited the program and cut the program size down to 22 minutes of total time. Using the same settings as above, I started the render and it went to 85% and stopped.

I doubled checked my Control Panal "Power" settings and both the monitor and the computer are set to "NEVER" turn it self off. I have only been shooting with the AG AVC cameras for the past 5-7 weeks and I recognize that the file size is much larger than my old SD digital tape camera, but I have not had any difficulties keeping myself aware of storage space and rendering space. I have been using Vegas to edit for several years. My first copy was "Video Vegas" by Sonic Foundry" before Sony bought the software.

Hopefully my problem is something simple that I am doing wrong and can fix (with a little education). I will appreciate any assistance offered. THANK YOU...

Thank you for your help... I used Sony AVC and it rendered to 76% then stopped on the first attempt. I had directed (correct terminology?) the render to my RAID storage unit attached to my network. At that point I transferred every file possible from my C Drive to the RAID unit and then attempted the Sony AVC render again, this time using only the C drive. It worked just fine.

That seems to indicate that my problem is/was using an "external" drive instead of an internal drive. A bottleneck of some kind must have created the problem, although I have a GB network to the external RAID unit. I am surprised that using a 6 channel processor and 16 GB of RAM didn't prevent the problem. OR... is it more probable that I do not have Vegas correctly set up to utilize an external drive for rendering?

Thank you again!

I've never worked with an external RAID, but I have rendered to external (USB and Firewire) drives before, without incident. There's nothing in Vegas you need to set to opimtize it.

Not entirely sure what the problem is, but appears to be systemic and not a Vegas issue. As a general matter, I have always maintained internal drives for rendering and would recommend that.

Thank you David. I have just finished transferring 90% of the files from my secondary hard drive to the RAID. That will give me almost 2 TB of internal HD space to utilize specifically for VEGAS editing & rendering. That should resolve my issue and allow me to render without any problems. I appreciate your comments and recommendations. As I get older, the old saying .... you can't see the forest because of all the trees... becomes more relevant (grin) !
